Year 7 Catch up Funding

Year 7 Catch up Funding

St Anne’s receives £210,361 extra funding for pupils who are below the required standard in English or Maths at the end of Key Stage 2(this amount will be confirmed in March 2019).  We have invested in extra staffing in order to support the progress of our pupils during 2017-18. This remains the case for 2018-19.

Our lowest ability group class sizes are smaller than the rest of the year group to facilitate increased teacher pupil interaction and therefore support in lessons. Intervention groups have been put in place to support literacy and mathematics and further interventions such as a nurture group have been put in place for identified pupils. Screening tests for access to mathematics and English have also been carried out to help identify specific areas of support required.

English: Of all of the pupils identified as achieving lowest at Key Stage 2 for English, by the end of year 8, 21.6% were working towards expected levels in comparison with 46.6% of the rest of the cohort, 72.9% were working at expected levels in comparison with 52.1% of the rest of the cohort and 5.4% were exceeding expected levels of progress in comparison with 1.37% of the rest of the year group cohort.

Maths: Of all of the pupils identified as achieving lowest at Key Stage 2 for Maths, by the end of year 8, 10.8% were working towards expected levels which was comparable with the rest of the cohort at 31.7%, 75.7% were working at expected levels in comparison with 44.1% of the rest of the cohort and 13.5% were exceeding expected levels of progress in comparison with 24.1% of the rest of the year group cohort.  In year 9, the pupils achieving lowest at Key Stage 2 were identified to be placed in smaller class for Maths to increase the level of teacher pupil interaction and therefore support in lessons. This allowed the class teacher to differentiate the curriculum appropriately to best support these pupils in making progress and also allowed these pupils to be provided with additional hours of maths teaching in place of learning French throughout Key Stage 3.
