GCSE Results 2018

23rd August 2018

St Anne’s GCSE results contribute to city success.

As part of the city’s GCSE results, St Anne’s year 11 pupils are celebrating another year of pleasing results with over half the year group achieving at least one 7 or above and just under a fifth of the year group achieving at least one coveted grade 9. In a year of big changes nationally, St Anne’s results are mostly in line with previous years.

Results

  • Attainment 8 score: This is the average grade that pupils have got across their best 8 subjects which has to include English, maths, 3 EBacc subjects and 3 other subjects: 52.1
  • Pupils achieving a standard pass in both GCSE English and maths: 71%
  • Pupils achieving a strong pass in both GCSE English and maths: 46%

The results were strong across the board, some examples include:

  • Grade 9s: 32 pupils (just under a fifth of the year group) achieved at least one grade 9 in the new reformed GCSEs.
  • English: 89% of pupils achieved at least a grade 4, 78% achieved at least a grade 5 and 34% achieving at least a grade 7.
  • Maths: 73% of pupils achieved at least a grade 4, with just under half the year group achieving a grade 5 or above.
  • Religious Studies: 87% of pupils achieved at least a 4, with over half the year group getting a 7 or above. A very impressive achievement when it is considered that all pupils take Religious Studies as part of their core curriculum.

Among the notable achievements was the results of Tanya Watson. Tanya achieved, among other grades, eight grade 9s and an A^ in Further Mathematics (which is a grade above an A* in that qualification. At the same time as her studies, she has been training and competing at a national level in competitive diving, representing her home country of Ireland. In just the last two months she has competed in the Junior Euro Championships in Finland, the Junior World Championships in the Ukraine and the Senior Euro Championships in Scotland. Her aim is to represent her country in an upcoming Olympic games.

Head of School, Mr James Rouse, is pleased with the results: “In a year of big national changes it’s pleasing that the results continue to be so strong. As a city, the secondary school leaders are working ever more closely together to ensure that Southampton pupils get the best possible start, and our results contribute to that city-wide success. We are also thrilled so many year 11s from across the city are planning to come to us for sixth form and we are looking forward to welcoming them on Friday 24th August for our sixth form enrolment day.”
