Chaplaincy & Charities

Chaplaincy

Our chaplaincy work infuses all we do at St Anne’s.  All staff and pupils contribute in a variety of ways to live out our mission statement

The chaplaincy team is looked after by the RE department, but involves people who bring musical, dramatic and artistic talents to what we do.  Our sixth formers love to be involved in the events.

At the heart of our week is the celebration of Mass in our Oasis Room – this Eucharistic celebration joins us to the whole Church and brings together the prayers and needs of the whole community.

Each day begins with a time of prayer and reflection either in tutor groups or assemblies that all our students participate in.

Spirituality is developed in lessons of all subjects and in our extensive programme of clubs and activities, which includes:

  • Prayer Group
  • Creative Craft Club
  • Senior Christian Union
  • DropZone Club
  • Prayer and Praise Group
  • Rosary Club

Key events in the liturgical calendar are marked with services in school, such as our Christmas Carol, Ash Wednesday and Passiontide services, with our worship enhanced by music, drama and dance. We take year groups to St Edmund’s church for Masses and mark holydays of obligation as they arise.

Each year every student has the opportunity to take part in a Reflection Day, a break from the norm and a much-needed chance to recharge batteries. We also take part in annual events with the Diocese of Portsmouth such as the Schools’ Good Shepherd Mass.

Staff join for our local Catholic Cluster Mass and meet regularly to pray together in school.  They also support and lead many aspects of our varied charities programme.

Members of the chaplaincy team are available to students and staff of all faiths or none to talk or pray together. Chaplaincy at St Anne’s is here for everyone to be the best possible versions of themselves that they can be.

Charities

Each year the school supports a range of charities.  Internationally, we support CAFOD at their Harvest Fast Day and through tutor group Lent projects and we also have a team of Sixth Formers following CAFOD’s Young Leaders’ Programme.  This year we had great fun brightening up the harvest for those for whom this time of year is worrying.

Closer to home, our houses each support a different charity and run an assembly to raise awareness and an event to support their work.  Last year’s charities were:

  • Alphonsa- Abby’s Heros
  • Bernadette- Southampton Sight
  • Catherine- Clear Project
  • Edith- Society St James
  • Hildegard- Friends of PICU
  • Josephine- Leukaemia Busters
  • Thérèse- Yellow Door
Each Christmas we collect for hampers for a locally-based charity and the generosity of the school community is wonderful.
Our staff and Sixth Form took a moment out to be part of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ event this year and enjoyed spending time together outside the classroom.

We are also proud to support the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal, as well as other needs as circumstances require.
